French
The major or minor focuses on the history, culture, business, literature, and language of France and the francophone world. Courses include cinema, surrealism, francophone studies, culture and civilization, and business. Graduates choose careers in teaching, translation, business analytics, archiving, and international policy, or continue their studies at top graduate schools. More than 80% of our students study abroad, and there are summer, semester, or year-long opportunities at a variety of universities in Paris, Senegal, and other francophone countries. For example, many people participate in a program that allows them to teach English to students in France for an academic year. Organizations like the French club, Le Cercle, and the French honors society, Phi Delta Pi, give students the opportunity to speak French outside of the classroom. The major also has a unique outreach option that allows students to teach French as part of an after-school program in local elementary schools.
